Crooked Lake and Round Lake Flood Committee
We have recently learned that the Water Security Agency is undertaking a project to divert Kutawagan Lake.
This would divert tens of thousands of cubic meters of saltwater into our already-overloaded Qu'Appelle river chain, through Last Mountain Lake, Crooked Lake, Round Lake, and all the way down into Manitoba. This project has been proposed in a threatening manner with no alternative but uncontrolled flooding, and developed without any input from the people who have to live with it. Seeing the environmental problems similar projects at Devil's Lake and Lake Lenore have caused, we believe this is very ill-advised. We have already collected hundreds of signatures opposing this and are looking for more: Click here for the petition, and click here for a list of related facts.
About The Committee
Since 2011, lake levels at Crooked Lake and Round Lake have increased to previously unknown levels. This has resulted in severe flooding and property damage. The Committee was formed by citizens living in the area, to work with various groups and government organizations to try and find better solutions to the flooding.
This site is a collection of information on the 2011 Flood, 2013 Flood, and 2014 Flood, documents committee Meetings, and hosts other media related to the flood situation such as Image Galleries.
